My name is Lisa Sheoudy. I was born Lisa Barr, and I have been married for 7 years. I don't speak any other language, although I have taken 3 semesters of American Sign Language. I was born in Honolulu, Hi where my family lived. My parents lived on the island for almost 20 years, and my sister and I lived there till we were in our early teens. I know live in Fair Oaks with my husband, and 2 beautiful daughters.
I am Caucasian, and don't really identify to much with ethnicity and nationality. I was born and raised in Hawaii, so I did identify as an "islander" while living there, but that has long passed. My dad has a strong Jewish background and we grew up celebrating several Jewish cultures, but I don't continue that now.
My daughters are important to me. They are by far the MOST important thing in my life. My oldest daughter just turned 5 and will start kindergarten next year. I would say the most important thing a teacher can provide for their student is patience and allowing them to move at their own pace.
I am a mother and wife first and foremost. I am a feminist, a strong advocate for women's rights, a birth advocate and I try to be good to our environment. Before entering into motherhood I worked with high school students and LOVED it!! We did community outreach and it was very rewarding.
Being a mother of a 5 year old and a 2 year old keeps me VERY busy. We love to go on adventures, parks, hiking, zoo, anything. I believe very strongly of "following the child" ...I focus on their interests and will miss my daughter so much when she starts kindergarten next year! I also love birth and hope to be a doula someday. I love swimming, hiking, reading! I either am listening to kids music or NPR!
I have an older sister who lives in Hawaii and we miss her LOTS! She is a great aunt and I wish we lived closer. My parents are divorced and my mom lives near me and my dad lives in Orange County. My husband and I have been married for 7 years and are going strong!!
This is exciting that you lived in Honolulu for that long. I think it was interesting to live there. Because your children will go to school soon, it is really good that you took this class because it will hep you to learn more about different races and how children should interact with other children from different races. I hope you will like this class a lot.
